PDP unlikely to be benefited by Mehboob Beg
11/16/2014 11:23:15 PM
Early Times Report

Srinagar, Nov 16: Former NC MP, who after resigning from the party had said it’s only Mufti Mohammad Sayeed who could stop the march of Narendra Modi.
The political career graph of Beg speaks about his political opportunism. He had in the past also defected from the party and joined ranks with the former CM late Gulam Muhammad Shah, who by engineering a split in the party had formed the government.
Beg was always off the blocks in criticising Mufti Sayeed.
He had accused the PDP of not only being a party of ‘intelligence agencies’ but had even accused Mufti Sayeed of being ‘murderer’ of the Kashmir. It is also a fact that Beg had even contested and lost to Mehbooab Sayeed.
The former NC MP was highly critical of India in the parliamentary and TV debates and this could cost PDP more if it falls short of the magic number to form the government.
Mehboob Beg’s father considered right hand of late Sheikh Abdullah had fuelled pro-Pakistan feelings in the valley and would flaunt green cloth to get votes.
Mehboob Beg was trying to get a cabinet ministry in the Omar Abdullah government but after having failed to do and realising that NC is on decline he had requested Sayeed to save his ‘political career’.
“Mehboob Beg had approached the Chief Minister and NC Working President Omar Abdullah after his defeat in the Lok Sabha elections and demanded political rehabilitation as a Cabinet Minister in the State,” said NC provincial president Aslam Wani .
Mehboob Beg had only few months ago said that PDP is the face of the BJP and had accused Mufti Sayeed of propagating the ideology of the BJP-read RSS. Beg according to sources wants political rehabilitation after the polls.
“People with personal ambition can’t do anything good for the party leave along the society,” said a senior PDP leader.
