No respite from cold in Kashmir, Leh-Kargil records minus 9

Srinagar, Nov 16 : People in Leh and Kargil continued to shiver as the minimum temperature remained below minus 9 degree in the Ladakh region, where polling in four Assembly constituencies will be held on November 25.
There was also no respite from the cold in the Kashmir valley, where night temperature remained below normal.
A Met department spokesman said weather will remain dry with result the temperature could drop further in the state, particularly in the Kashmir valley and Ladakh region during the next 24 hours. Kargil, a border town on national highway, connecting the Ladakh region with the rest of the state, recorded coldest night of the season after the mercury dropped further and settled at minus 9 degree against earlier lowest of minus 7.8 degree, recorded yesterday.
At Leh, the minimum temperature was minus 9.4 degree, a notch less than earlier lowest of minus 10 degree recorded on November 13.Four constituencies of Leh, Kargil, Nobra and Zanaskar are going to polls on November 25 in the first phase.
World famous health resort of Pahalgam continued to be coldest in the valley, where the minimum temperature dropped further and settled at minus 3.4 degree, more than two notches below normal.
However, the lowest of the winter so far was recorded on November 10 when the mercury was minus 3.6 degree. Gulmarg, a famed ski resort, which witness record skiers and adventure lovers besides honeymoon couples last winter, also record minus 1.4 degree, about a notch below normal.Border district of Kupwara in north Kashmir, Kokernag and Qazigund in south also recorded below normal minimum temperature. The summer capital, Srinagar, also witnessed a degree below normal minimum temperature with icy cold winds continued today though sun was playing hide and seek.
