MENDHAR, Dec 31: Three youth were today apprehended by police for allegedly beating up the PSO (personal security officer) of SDM, Mendhar, and then attacking a police party.
Nazakat Hussain Shah, PSO of Mendhar SDM Romesh Kumar, was going on his motorcycle when he was hit by an Alto car (JK12/8251) in the town. After the collision, four youth, who were travelling in the car, gave a sound beating to the PSO and also tore off his uniform, according to police sources.
After the incident, the youth, who were later joined by their relatives, blocked the road and held a demonstration. Sources said when a police party was approaching the spot, it was attacked by the protesters, forcing the cops to flee.
The youth included Mohammad Ayaz, son of Mohammad Bashir, ex-serviceman Ali Akbar, son of Ghulam Rasool, his brother Masood Ahmad, and Zafar Ahmad, son of local BJP leader Mohammad Sadiq Naz, all residents of Chak Banola, Chhatral. After the PSO lodged a complaint against them with Mendhar Police Station, police swung into action and apprehended three of the accused while the fourth, whom sources identified as Zafar, was absconding. Police were making efforts to arrest him too, the sources added. Sources alleged that some intoxicants were recovered from the possession of the accused. |
