Jammu, Dec 31: The renovation of Kala Kendra has been caught in fight between Kala Kendra Society and Public Works Department (PWD), with both of whom blaming each other for delay.
The renovation of Kala Kendra building was started nearly two years back but the renovation work has not been completed yet and both institutions have been alleging each other for delay in completion of work. In between the fight of both institutions, the public and art and culture lovers are the victim, who has not been reaping the benefits of the Kala Kendra building, for which it was constructed.
Source in the Kala Kendra informed Early Times that two years back, the Kala Kendra Society had allotted the renovation work to Public Works Department (PWD) as few floors were leaking and fissures were developed, while the building also wanted some repairs. "KKS had released Rs. 25 Lakh from total tender cost of Rs. 50 Lakh before Diwali but so far the department has failed to complete the renovation works", sources said.
They further said that after few years of establishment of Kala Kendra building leakage were found in the roof of the top storey, following which the department had decided for renovation, but due to lethargy of the department the renovation has not completed yet.
When this correspondent contacted to head of Kala Kendra Society, Sujanya Sharma said that they repeatedly send communiqués to renovating agency (PWD) for early completion of work but every time they paid a deaf ear.
"So far we have forwarded nearly four notices to PWD for completion of renovation work, so that building could be uses but for no avail", he said.
On the contrary Executive Engineer of PWD, Mohammed Abdullah said that despite repeated requests to Kala Kendra Society for release of total sanctioned tender money of Rs. 50 Lakhs, same was not released yet. "The total cost of renovation work has accounted more than Rs. One Crore but we have only asking for release of Rs. 50 Lakhs which has not been released, causing inordinate delay", he said, adding that whenever the pending amount would be released, the renovation work would be completed on war footing. |
