Cooking gas, kerosene shortage, power cuts ail Rajouri

RAJOURI, Dec 31: The ongoing cold climate conditions have put people reeling under acute shortage of essential commodities, particularly cooking gas and kerosene, notwithstanding government claims that there is enough stock of essentials available in the market.
Locals in Rajouri district have been facing multiple problems which include shortage of safe drinking water, electricity, almost in the entire district including Rajouri city, shortage of LPG cylinders, low voltage, shortage of fire wood, kerosene oil etc especially in remote areas of Miari, Dassal, Kheora, Rajouri city , Chalwal (in Kalakot), Nowshera, Sunderbani, Thanamandi, Darhal, Manjakot are complaining about acute shortage of electricity, inhabitants of many villages in Noushera, Rajouri, Darhal, Thanamandi Kotranka, Budhal are facing shortage of safe drinking water.
Despite sufficient availability of LPG cylinder by the Hindustan Petroleum (HP) the mismanagement, black marketing in nexus with employees of the distributors and negligence on part of CA&PD officials have badly hit the consumers in the district .
Locals alleged that most of the hoteliers, tea stall owners, dhabawalas, halwais are using domestic cylinder at their establishment right under the nose of district administration and CA&PD officials but for the reasons best known to them no action was being taken against these violators.
Inhabitants of Nowshera town including Naresh Kumar, Jaswant Singh said that since Monday they the LPG delaer has failed to provide the cylinder and people while people of Nagrota in Rajouri tehsil and Dhroot (Bhajwal) in Sunderbani tehsil too have been facing shortage of drinking water for the last many days. Many of them even have protested against the concerned officials and warned the authorities of large scale protests if the water supply was not restored within next few days. Defeding their position senior PHE officials and Junior Engineer Mohd Khaliq (PHE) briefly said that prolonged power curtailments coupled with very low voltage has hampered the water lifting process as the electric motors are not functioning properly.
Meantime locals of Chambalgala in Kalakot tehsil have alleged that the feeding transformer of the area was burnt due to overloading about a fortnight ago. Romesh Chander a PDD employee said that some inhabitants of the area those who have no electric connections creating hurdles in the installation of new transformer as they are also demanding connections first.
"The matter has been brought into the notice of senior officers and soon after their clearance new transformer will be installed" said Romesh.
