Early Times Report

BARAMULLA, Dec 31: More than 160 militants are waiting to cross into the state via the line of Control, General Officer Commanding (GOC) of 15 Corps Lt Gen Subrata Saha told media persons on the sidelines of an inauguration function in Sopore. "Our estimate is that around 160 to 170 militants are waiting to infiltrate on terror launch pads across the Line of Control (LoC) but the counter-infiltration grid is robust as always" The army commander said while speaking after laying the foundation of a bridge in Tulibal area of Sopore town in north Kashmir's Baramulla district. GOC said that the delay in snowfall across the Kashmir has made infiltration easy, but the army is alert and would foil any infiltration bid on the LoC. Replying to a question Saha said that, Army is fully prepared to face any kind of situation on ground and ready to foil any attempts that would be aimed to disrupt the peace process in the region. "This year there has not been much snow so far as there was the previous year.
There has been 12 to 19 inch snow at some places but temperatures are down and there are separate and new challenges because of that and we have to face them and respond to them," he said.
Even though there are challenges because of the weather, it is our responsibility to respond to those challenges and we are ready for that.
The militants were trying to infiltrate at present but our army is keeping close vigil on the Borders to foil any infiltration bid of the militants, GOC maintained.
GOC however further added and said that, " the attacks which were carried out in Mohra Uri in past, could be carried in future as well in future to disrupt peace in Jammu and Kashmir. According to Saha that Security forces are fully equipped to cope up with any situation.
Lt Saha added, "we are hoping that the new government would be formed at the earliest, so that the issues of common people were resolved only once the formation of new government takes the final shape.
Meanwhile it is pertinent to mention here that the Chinar Corps has taken an initiative to construct the bridge on Sopore-Sangrama highway.
