Early Times Report
anantnag, Mar 30: Flood victims of Shamsipora Bijbehara on Monday accused Additional deputy commissioner Anantnag of insulting them by calling them habitual beggars and held a protest demonstration against him in Khanabal Chowk on National Highway.
According to eyewitness, Flood victims blocked traffic on Srinagar-Jammu National highway resulting in chaos and traffic jam for several hours. Protesters were demanding immediate transfer of the officer who according them is 'arrogant'. "Jehlum breached near our village (Shamsipora) yesterday late evening and we informed the administration. A few hours later, Additional deputy commissioner Anantnag visited the village but instead of helping or giving any sort of assurance to the residents he (ADC) insulted us and said that we were habitual beggars." A resident,Mushtaq Ahmad told Early Times.
"Your are habitual beggars, you just want relief from government, I can't help you, were his statements." Angry protesters told Early Times.
They accused him of insulting and hurting the sentiments of local populace in general and of flood victims in particular. "We received nothing from government, only NGOs helped us at that time. So government must take action against this arrogant officer," They added.
While Additional Deputy commissioner Anantnag could not be contacted, However Deputy Commissioner Anantnag Bashir Ahmad Khan told reporters that he will ensure construction of damaged bridge and restoration of the breach in Jehlum in the area.
"I know all about heated arguments which are expected because of the prevailing situation." He said, adding restoration of the breach and construction of the bridge seems to be the main reason, will be given priority.
Pertinently on 15th of January this year, MLC Bashir Ahmad Veeri slapped the same officer inside the office of Deputy Commissioner Anantnag, over his alleged involvement in relief embezzlement.
