Cornered Madhav's desperate attempt to justify the divisive deal | What is this 80% development, 10% governance, 10% politics? | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Apr 7: What is this 80% development, 10% governance, 10% politics? What did BJP national general secretary Ram Madhav, who clinched what is being termed in Jammu region as "anti-Jammu, anti-Ladakh, Kashmir-centric and militant and separatist-friendly and accepted the perverted and communally-motivated Kashmiri view that Pakistan is also a stakeholder in this part of Jammu and Kashmir", mean by 80% development, 10% governance, 10% politics? He should have explained everything to the reporters in Bengaluru on April 5, but the cornered and under attack Ram Madhav kept everyone guessing, thus exposing his political bankruptcy. Or, perhaps, he didn't know what he meant? After all, Ram Madhav negotiated the deal with someone who was far more shrewd, far more intelligent, far more politically wise and highly committed to the Kashmiri cause. But one can very easily understand why he didn't explain what he meant? His vague clarification that the BJP didn't compromise was nothing but a desperate attempt of a desperate and cornered negotiator to defend the indefensible and in the process he exposed himself and the BJP thoroughly, thus creating more problems for the country and his own party in Jammu and Kashmir where it was already under fire and where the people of Jammu region and all the non-BJP political parties, barring its shrewd and intelligent ally, and political and social groups were accusing the BJP of "betraying the Jammu's mandate" and "selling out Jammu and the national interest for political power". However, certain things became very clear on April 5. One, Ram Madhav, who knows nothing about Jammu and Kashmir and flirts with a very selected few equally incompetent and opportunist persons in the state, told the country that there were many stakeholders in Jammu and Kashmir and it was essential to negotiate a deal over the state with these stakeholders. He gave everyone to understand that India is not a nation but a congregation of nations and that there are in Jammu and Kashmir stakeholders other than India. But this was never the stand of the BJP and the RSS to which he originally belongs. The stand of the BJP and the RSS all along was "Jammu and Kashmir was, is and shall always remain integral part of India" and that "if the problem in Jammu and Kashmir was to resolved, Article 370 (under which the state has a separate flag and separate constitution) has to be abrogated". This was the age-old stand of the BJP and the RSS on Jammu and Kashmir. By accepting the obnoxious suggestion that there were many stakeholders in Jammu and Kashmir, including Hurriyat Conference and Pakistan, Ram Madhav & Co, who had been given the mandate by BJP national president Amit Shah and Prime Minister Narendra Modi, negated everything that India had done to integrate the state with India by making supreme sacrifices, including the martyrdom of Shyama Prasad Mukherjee. Ram Madhav not only defended the bad deal, which contemplated nothing for Jammu and Ladakh and left the hapless and suffering 1.5 million Jammu-based refugees high and dry, but also asserted that there was nothing wrong if certain disturbed areas in the state were de-notified for the purpose of lifting Armed Forces Special powers Act (AFSPA) . "The BJP has taken a measured and calculated position on AFSPA, an issue on which the party and PDP have different views. The coalition Government will examine the need for de-notifying disturbed areas which consequently enable the Centre, especially Prime Minister Narendra Modi, to take a final decision on continuation of AFSPA in these areas. It is a normal exercise which the government takes from time to time. This as a consequence will enable the Union Government to take a final decision on the continuation of AFSPA in these areas," the utterly irresponsible Ram Madhav said. Again, what he said with regard to the AFSPA was never the stand of the BJP and the RSS. There stand was this Act must not be withdrawn from the state as the situation in the state was highly volatile and that this Act was a must to combat militancy and maintain internal security and give a sense of security to the people of the militant-infested state. By agreeing to the dangerous suggestion that certain disturbed areas could be de-notified he only willingly walked into the trap of those in the Valley who want the Army and paramilitary forces to leave Jammu and Kashmir so that they could play their nefarious games with utmost ease and achieve their most cherished desire: Separation of the state from India. Hitherto, the stand of the BJP was that the Army and paramilitary forces be given a freehand to deal with the situation. Ram Madhav said many other things to defend the deal and convince the country that there was nothing objectionable in it. But the fact remains that the BJP has committed a grave blunder. The fact that the militants have intensified subversive activities in the state and Pakistan is breaching the international border in Jammu region to attack army camps and police stations only establish that the deal the BJP struck to grab power in the state has already proved counter-productive. |
