Early Times Report
Srinagar, Oct 7: Continuing curbs on the anti-national activities of separatists in Kashmir, authorities have banned the scheduled seminar of separatists and detained some of them.
Taking serious note of the separatists' activities following severe criticism from many political fronts across the country recently over the hoisting of Pakistani flags by separatists, authorities today banned a seminar organised by the hardliner Geelani group and arrested its some activists.
According to sources, the separatists had booked a hotel in Lal Chowk for the today's programme, but after receiving inputs about the seminar police foiled their bid and also detained separatist Mohammad Ashraf Sehrai near Airport road on the Srinagar outskirts in the morning.
Sources informed that other separatists who had assembled at their Hyderpora office were also detained by police to avoid any law and order problem. The venue of the seminar was later shifted from the hotel to the Hyderpora office, but did not allow them to go ahead with it.
Most of the separatists are under House detention for the last two to three months following severe criticism of PDP-BJP coalition government for allowing them free space for their "anti-India" activities.
Coalition partners particularly PDP had to face tough times after it had released Masrat Alam Bhat from jail. Alam who was later detained had waved Pakistani flags along with his supporters in a rally in Srinagar.
After hue and Cry from many circles on allowing free space to Separatists for Hoisting Pakistani flags and disturbing law and order, authorities had also very recently detained woman separatist Asiya Andrabi and lodged an FIR against her.
Almost all the separatists including Syed Ali Shah Geelani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, Shabir Ahmad Shah and Yaseen Malik were put under house detention by authorities on Eid day to prevent any law and order problem.
