Ceasefire violations along LoC claims lives of 28 civilians, 20 security men

Srinagar, Oct 7: The government on Wednesday claimed that 48 persons including 28 civilians and 20 security personnel have been killed on Line of Control (LoC) and International Border (IB) on account of continuous ceasefire violations by Pakistan since 2012. The state government that comes with a detailed data about total deaths and casualties due to ceasefire violations by Pak also revealed that 189 civilians and 61 security personals have also been injured during three years in the state. This was informed by the Chief Minister Mufti Muhammad Sayeed who also holds the portfolio of Home Minister in a written reply to a query by BJP MLA, Satpal Sharma in the Legislative Assembly. "The number of civilians and security forces killed on account of the ceasefire violations by Pakistan on LoC and IB since 2012 till 31st of September 2015 are 48 which include 28 civilians and 20 security force personals. 189 civilians and 61 Jawans have also been injured," Mufti informed.
He also claimed that 193 residential structures were completely damaged due to border firing during this period.
"A total of 193 residential houses have suffered losses in Pak firing, government has also provided ex-gratia relief of rupees 56, 79,694 to the next to kin of those killed and injured in cross border firing incidents in Jammu division," he claimed.
Revealing districtwise amount paid as ex-gratia relief. He said rupees 25, 30752 was paid to the victims of Cross Border firing in Jammu followed by 13,08942 in Samba, 1,20,000 in Kathua, 25,000 in Rajouri and 56, 79,694 in Poonch districts.
He further said that the ex-gratia has been paid to the persons who got killed or injured due to border shelling and firing @ rupees I lakh in death cases, 75,000 for permanent disability, 5000 for injured and 50 percent assessed loss to immovable property damaged.
Mufti also shared the district wise data about deaths and casualties of both civilians and security personals of which 1 civilian killed and 1 injured in Jammu in 2012 followed by 5 civilians and 4 security personals killing in 2014.
The total number of civilians injured in Samba sector is 4 followed by 2 security personals in 2013 and 2 till September 2015. Similarly 1 security personal got injured in Kishtwar due to firing by Pakistan on this side of LoC in 2012.
"An amount of rupees 11.5 lakh rupees paid as compensation to the next of the kins of deceased persons either killed or injured in Jammu division while the remaining cases are under process at various stages," he informed.
