Farooq Abdullah under pressure to suspend Akbar Lone after he raised pro-Pak slogans
2/11/2018 12:30:25 AM
Early Times Report
JAMMU, Feb 10: National Conference president and MP Dr. Farooq Abdullah is under increasing pressure to sack MLA Mohammad Akbar Lone after he shouted 'Pakistan Zindabad' in the assembly today. Dr Abdullah was quick to react and disown the statement but that is not seen as a 'decisive' action.
Sources said the statement by Lone has been taken very seriously in the home ministry and the Prime Minister Office and both have communicated their concern to the Dr Abdullah with strong communication that a strong action has to be taken with this regard.
"Never ever before a sitting legislator had shouted Pakistan Zindabad in the assembly. It didn't happen when terrorism was at its peak in the 90's in the valley. So, how could now, when we have cornered Pakistan, he could say? It could set a wrong precedent if strong action is not taken by the NC leadership more so by Dr Abdullah and we have expressed the concern to him in unequivocal terms," said a top official of the home ministry.
The sources said that sensing the gravity of the situation, NC spokesperson Junaid Mattu, tweeted the tweets attributed to Dr Abdullah in this regard.
"Just spoke to @JKNC_ President Dr. Farooq Abdullah Sahib. Dr. Sahib and the entire party is of the unequivocal stand that NC MLA from Sonawari Akbar Lone has spoken out of turn and his slogans in the Legislative Assembly are completely unacceptable to the party."
"Hon'ble @JKNC_ President has said the NC MLA should not forget that he belongs to a party that rejected the two nation theory and he should also remember the oath he swears in the name of God at the beginning of his terms. The party disowns and condemns his remarks," he wrote in another tweet.
"Totally endorse my Party President's views outlined in these two tweets. The party will say nothing more on this issue," tweeted Omar Abdullah.
Akbar Lone had in the past too brought about embarrassing moments for the party. As a Speaker he had said that media is under his control after which media had boycotted the assembly proceedings. He had used abusive language against MLA PDP as a speaker and also used some derogatory words against MP Muzaffar Beigh.
"Akbar Lone has crossed all limits today. He made this remarks when the nation was mourning the death of the two brave soldiers that too from the state. And he had an audacity to say this just few kilometers away from the site of the attack. This is just unacceptable and Farooq has to take a strong action nothing short of it will be accepted," said the official.
