Demanding district for Nowshera people go on indefinite strike
2/16/2018 10:23:15 PM
Early Times Report
Rajouri, Feb 16: People of Nowshera sub division/ Nowshera Assembly Constituency today started their indefinite peaceful strike in favour of their long pending demand of district status with HQs at Nowshera. They alleged that people of the area were deceived many times by the successive governments on this issue.
The strike has been initiated under the banner of Beopar Mandal headed by Subhash Chander Kapoor and almost all the organisations including Bar Association and transport association have supported the strike. "As successive government have deceived the people by giving hollow promises in the past, so the people of the area have decided to initiate indefinite strike till we receive orders in writing from the government for district HQs at Nowshera" said Subhash Kapoor.
A member of Bar Association while supporting the indefinite strike said that people of the area facing many difficulties to reach at Rajouri for their official works. We have also supported the demand of creation of office of the Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) at Nowshera till the demand for the district was not fulfilled. Another prominent citizen of Nowshera said that Nowshera was the oldest tehsil which was created in 1947. In 1967 district status was announced for Nowshera but later the district offices were shifted to Rajouri without any consultation with our people. Since a long time the people of the area have been struggling for separate district but successive governments didn't pay any heed to our demand.
Recently we held protest demonstration demanding ADC office at Nowshera, till District status was not announced, on the pattern of Kotranka which is just 35 kilometres from Rajouri town and was inaugurated by Minister for FCS&CA and Tribal Affairs on February 11 Kotranka in his constituency (Darhal). "We were assured by the State government for the creation of ADC office at Nowshera through our MLA, MLC and DDC after the culmination of Assembly Session i.e after February 12. We waited for two days but without any response, a memorandum was given to State government through DDC informing about our demands and initiation of indefinite strike in case no response till February 16" said Subhash Kapoor. He, representatives of Bar council, Sikh community, border villages, student unions and many others have assured peaceful strike but said; "If the government failed to meet the demands of the people by adopting delay tactics like in the past, it would not remain peacefully and for any untoward incident the state government would be fully responsible". Abdul Sattar, SDM said that the strike remained peaceful as was assured by the prominent citizens. "Their memorandum was forwarded to the State government through DDC. Till late evening hours no official response was received in this matter" said SDM.
