Chuni terms reservation to Pahari speaking people politically motivated
2/18/2018 11:32:13 PM
Early Times Report

Jammu, Feb 18: "The recent move of State Government in which 3 percent reservation was extended to Pahari Speaking People of the State was a politically motivated as the real beneficiaries i.e. PoK Displaced Persons who are by clan Paharis haven't been incorporated in ambit of reservation that is yet another discriminative move to deprive PoK DPs from their legitimate rights", this was stated by Rajiv Chuni, Chairman SOS International.
Thousands of PoK DPs across Jammu have gathered in the rally and hailed the efforts of SOS International and vowed their full fledged support to the Organization over its struggle to get absolute justice for which they have been waiting for the last 7 decades.
While addressing the rally, Chairman said that the recent move of Government of extending reservation to Pahari- Speaking people proved that it has nothing to do with wellbeing of the most destitute community of the world i.e. PoK DPs as Government has taken the decision by keeping grudge in its mind. "The real beneficiaries who belong to hilly terrains of Mirpur, Muzaffarabad and Poonch kept away from the ambit of reservation is a clear indication that how serious is Government to resolve our problems and causes. It is quite surprising that a large community who by birth are Paharis, moreover who has sacrificed its all to save the State from invaders are given step motherly treatment.
Government should have taken all the Pahari Speaking People of the State into consideration before granting 3 percent reservation according to their cultural, linguistic, Geographical identities but on what grounds and which logic the so called move of providing reservation to handful people hailing from two districts i.e. Poonch and Rajouri was taken", he added.
He further said that PoK DPs have been living in exile like nomads under inhumane conditions for the last 70 years and they must have been considered on high priority for this reservation as their wards are working as laborers, cleaners, domestic helpers etc. and they need reservation very desperately so that their living standards can be uplifted.
"Government ought to have included PoK DPs in this reservation bill as they have been demanding for long time.
A wave of gloom has gasped PoK DPs as they had great expectation from Government but they remain empty handed because vote bank politics were kept in consideration while granting status of reservation to the people who speak Pahari in hilly terrains of the state.
If Government doesn't want to grant us this status, then it must constitute PoK DPs Development Board that will look into the matters of ours as we have been deprived from our basic rights which include food, shelter, health, education, employment, etc.", Chuni reiterated.
