Talking over the phone while crossing the railway track cost a man his life on his wedding day. A 30-year-old man, identified as Naresh Pal, who was to get married on Sunday evening, died after he was hit by an express train on the same morning, reported the Times of India. The accident was reported from Nandosi village. As per an eyewitness, Naresh was reportedly talking on one phone while texting on another, he missed to see the Rajya Rani Express approaching him which ran over him.

Naresh was employed as an engineer with a private firm in Noida. He was employed as a civil engineer with Sukiza Builders, a construction firm in Noida. He was supposed to get married on Sunday evening to Uma Gangwar at Shahjahanpur. The information that he was hit by a train and killed came around at 9 am, when all his family members were busy in last-minute preparations for the wedding. Shocked by the incident, Naresh’s family member said that they had never expected something so terrible to happen on what was supposed to be the happiest day of his life.

Explaining the whole incident, one of the family members was quoted as saying that Naresh went out of the house to the railway tracks hardly 50 metres away to received a call from his colleague. While speaking on one phone, he was simultaneously reading messages on the second phone. Naresh was so glued to his phones that he did not hear the warning whistle of the approaching train, which hit him leading to his death.

The police, meanwhile, are investigating the incident. The preliminary investigation has revealed that it is a case of accident and not suicide, superintendent of police (SP) of Bareilly city said. However, the police are awaiting the post-mortem report.

Accidents caused due to mobile phones are on the rise in the country, with several reports of deaths being caused due to selfies on railway tracks. Surveys suggest that cellphones have also contributed to an increasing number of deaths on the road.
