Indefinite strike by people of Nowshera for district status enters 4th day
2/20/2018 12:00:19 AM
Early Times Report
Rajouri, Feb 19: Choudhry, MLC has extended his support to the people of Nowshera sub division whose indefinite strike for the status of District has entred fourth day today.
After holding protest demonstration in favour of their demand , protesters gathered at Patel Chowk and organised sit in dharna till evening .
Inhabitants of the area have been demanding district status with headquarters at Nowshera since a long time and as their demand was not taken seriously by the successive government these people felt deceived and they decided to go on indefinite strike.
The indefinite strike has been initiated under the banner of Beopar Mandal (Business Association) headed by Subhash Kapoor and is supported by all the unions/organisations including Bar Association.
Today Surinder Choudhry, MLC joined the protesters and extended his support for the struggle of district status and said, "It was a long pending demand of the people of the area. It was decided to create district HQs at Nowshera but later the district HQs were shifted to Rajouri" .
Criticising the people who have been demanding district for Sunderbani with HQs at Siot, MLC said such leaders are misguiding the people.
"Except at Nowshera town no infrastructure is available either at Sunderbani or at Siot and government has to spent huge money for that. Even the government has failed to provide official vehicle to SDM, Sunderabni and sufficient space for the office of Tehsildar while adequate infrastructure already exist at Nowshera.
He assured the people for district status for Nowshera and for that, he added, they are soon meeting with the Chief Minister.
Subhash Kapoor said that for the status of district, people of the area are now ready to face any challenge including lathis and bullets.
"Our struggle is peaceful and will remain peaceful. If any attempt was made to divide the people then it would not be possible to control the people. For the time being government should provide the post of Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) at Nowshera" said Subhash Kapoor.
