Early Times Report
JAMMU, Feb 19: Nineteen days after students of the department of physical education launched a sustained protest in the University of Jammu, seeking removal of the incumbent director of the department Avtar Singh Jasrotia, the administration has finally acceded to the demand of the students and removed Jasrotia from the post. Daud Iqbal Baba has been appointed as Incharge Director, department of physical education, while Dr Komal Nagar has been appointed as incharge Assistant director of the department.
A communication, No. Estab/18/21342-92 dated 19.2.2018 was issued by the Registrar JU on Monday, bringing an end to the students' dissent that started on February 1. As reported by ET, the students of the B PEd and M PEd courses had registered strong resentment to the unruly conduct and behavior of Avtar Singh Jasrotia, who had time and again acted in a manner, unbecoming of a head of the department, which had infuriated the students. Besides, Jasrotia had issued some irrational and unwarranted orders, which were against the statutes of the University and norms of propriety.
While students have hailed the decision of the JU administration, they rued the delay in taking the decision as it had caused loss of their vital academic time. "JU administration knew that our demands were genuine, but they had made it a prestige issue. Had the decision been taken in time, we would not have lost three weeks" said a student of M PEd, pleading anonymity. "We are told that the incharge director is a cricketer and has a sporting mind, but we urge that a full time director of Physical Education be appointed for the smooth functioning of the Department" he added.
