Early Times Report

Anantnag, Feb 19: A group of journalists working in South Kashmir's Anantnag district on Monday unanimously decided to walk out of a workshop "Vartalap" -organized by the Press Information Bureau- after they noticed the casual approach of organizers. The PIB was apparently supposed to brief the working journalists about the central government sponsored schemes and programs but the listed government officials including DDC Kulgam and other speakers failed to turn-up for the event.
Schedule for the rural media workshop 'Vartalap' circulated among the journalists at Kulgam by the Press Information Bureau clearly mentions that DDC Kulgam, Talat Parvez Reohella was supposed to inaugurate the workshop. The organizers adopted a casual approach and instead of inviting Additional deputy Commissioner Kulgam or any other senior officer of the district administration invited a member parliament for inauguration that agitated the journalists.
The workshop, which was supposed to conclude at 5:00pm in the evening, was surprisingly concluded at around 2:00 by the organizers.
Journalists alleged that among 74 listed centrally sponsored schemes and programs, they were just briefed about two or three schemes that too are vogue since last decade.
"They just National Health Mission but didn't discuss the other schemes which government has starting implementing in last three-four years," S Tariq, representative of Anantnag working Journalist Association told Early Times.
"The event was inaugurated by a Member Parliament which was earlier to be inaugurated by the DDC, such turn of events clearly showed the non-seriousness from the organizers," Anantnag working Journalist Association said in an issued statement. Media professionals said that the officials at the workshop discussed the work done and implementation of few government schemes and programs in Kulgam District but desisted to speak about the welfare or problems being faced by the working journalists. They said that though the media group tried to put across the main point but PIB officials continued to ignore and compelled the working journalists to walk out.
The journalists including this reporter returned back the money which the organizers had given to them for attending the workshop as transport allowance.
