Early Times Report

Budgam, Feb 19: Floods of 2014 that wreaked havoc across Kashmir valley brought miseries to several villages located on the banks of Shali Ganga in Budgam. Several villages like Dreygam , Hushroo , Panzan , Gajibagh suffered a lot due to soil erosion. The Rural Development Department (RDD) instead of undertaking minor repairs near the Shali Ganga canal is spending huge amount on not so important works to benefit the blue-eyed persons.
Details available with Early Times reveal that in Ganji Bagh village of Chadoora block in Budgam , Rural Development Department (RDD) spent more than 15 lakh rupees on construction of cemented drain at Ashaybagh Khul to benefit Afzal Ganai and G M Rather. Similarly a concrete retaining wall (R Wall) was constructed by RDD Chadoora near the house of Abdul Rasheed Ganai and Abdul Rehman Ganai which is not at all benefitting the community but two individuals.
A path was constructed near house of Mohammad Ramzan Ganai at the cost of sate exchequer. For all these constructions, funds to the tune of Rs 15 lakhs were drawn out of state exchequer. Sources say that Retaining Wall (R Wall) to protect the Shali Ganga is not at all being considered and BDO office Chadoora is least bothered to go ahead with the construction. Sources have told Early Times that from last few days a new illegal construction is being undertaken at Akshay Bagh near Shali Ganga nallah , this according to locals will not help the villagers but will only help few families.
The Flood Control Department Chadoora has also raised its concern over the issue. The Assistant Executive Engineer Flood Spill channel Sub Division Chadoora vide its official letter No: CD/ WoC/749-52 Dated 1.2.2018 wrote a letter to BDO Chadoora to stop the said construction but the RDD is least bothered. AEE has informed SDM and Executive Engineer Flood Control about the illegal construction.
Local residents have demanded that social audit be conducted in Ganji Bagh area so that all the illegal works undertaken will be exposed.
