Ignored by separatists, Dr Farooq becomes nationalist again
2/20/2018 12:40:00 AM
Early Times Report

Srinagar, Feb 19: Dr Farooq Abdullah has proved the maxim, politicians change colour like chameleons. After toeing separatist line for several months before the Srinagar Parliamentary by-polls, he has started behaving like a true nationalist.
In April last year, Farooq Abdullah supported the militants and stone pelters saying that they were sacrificing their lives for the nation.
While when one look into the past statements, they were completed different with the present ones. During the election campaign, he developed love for the separatist leadership of Kashmir and has urged the central government to engage in a dialogue with them to find a solution to the Kashmir 'issue'.
He was openly supporting separatists and advocating militancy. During the election campaign, he asked his workers for allegiance to Hurriyat and be part of the unrest. "I want to tell Hurriyat leaders not to go separate but be united and we are standing with you. Don't consider us as your enemies. As long as you (separatists) won't follow the wrong path, we will support you in this cause," Farooq has said.
In one of the statements, he had said militants in Kashmir are not fighting for a political position but for freedom of Kashmir.
"I want to tell the prime minister that tourism is our life, but a youth pelting stones is not bothered about tourism. He is ready to starve to death… but will continue to throw stones for his nation. This has to be understood," Abdullah said, countering Prime Minister Narendra Modi's remark wherein he had asked the Kashmiri youth to choose "tourism over terrorism".
"Kashmiri youth are picking up guns for freedom of Kashmir and not for becoming legislators. The younger generation of Kashmir isn't afraid of death and is ready to give their lives of the cause…we can't reach any solution on Kashmir until Pakistan is taken onboard; there are internal as well as external dimension to the Kashmir issues which needs to be addressed," Abdullah told party workers at a rally in Srinagar in April, warning his supporters and party leaders to support these gun-yielding men.
"Everyone wants to live and nobody wants to die. But these youth have made a promise with almighty that you decide the matters of life and death but we will sacrifice our life for [the] freedom of this nation," he had said.
However, for the last few months, he is behaving like a 'true nationalist'.
NC president Farooq Abdullah has blamed Pakistan for Sunjwan terror attack and saying Pakistan is behind for creating trouble in Kashmir.
Sensing the mood of the nation in the aftermath of the attack, Farooq Abdullah sought to create an impression that he was against Pakistan. "Pakistan must stop cross-border terrorism. It must stop exporting terrorists into India failing which India would have no other option but to attack Pakistan. And if it happens, the results would be disastrous," said Farooq Abdullah while reacting to the Sunjwan incident.
