| Now multi-crore 'scam' in Sunderbani road construction | | | AB Sharma

RAJOURI, Feb 20: Even as construction work has commenced on the much-needed road between Laither and Devak Hathal in Sunderbani tehsil here, the multi-crore project has come under scanner for use of allegedly substandard material.
Official sources said the contractor executing Rs 14 crore work has been using substandard material due to which the road won't last for long.
Sources said the Public Works Department (PWD) has given a free hand to the "influential" contractor allegedly due to some underhand deal with him. "PWD engineers are not checking the quality of the work despite repeated complaints from the locals," the sources said.
The locals said what was the fun of constructing road when substandard material is being used?
When contacted the concerned contractor said media should not interfere in his work.
The concerned DE, PWD said he was not the right person to be contacted and that his seniors should be asked to comment on the issue.
Despite repeated attempts the PWD Minister Naeem AKhter couldn't be contacted for comments. |
