Early Times Report

Udhampur, Mar 15: Amit Sharma, Regional Director, Survey & Land Records (Ex-Officio Settlement Officer) Udhampur/Reasi today led an all-important inaugural session of three-day Vertical Interaction Course on SMART Policing being held at premier Sher-e-Kashmir Police Academy Udhampur.
This Course has been especially designed for Senior Officers of Jammu & Kashmir Police department of the ranks of Senior Superintendent of Police, Superintendent of Police, Deputy Superintendent of Police and Others to give them first hand exposure on SMART Policing and its various facets under the directions of ADG Mohd Suleiman Salaria, Director SKPA, SSP Randheer Singh, Course Coordinator and Inspector Jagdev Sharma, Course Secretary.
RD, S&LR Amit Sharma, being an expert in eGovernance, was invited in SKPA to deliver inaugural lecture on "Concept of SMART Policing, Roadmap Ahead, Introduction of SMART Policing Initiatives in the Country" towards which he talked at length about the concept of S.M.A.R.T Policing which was recently defined by Prime Minister Narendra Modi as S - Strict but Sensitive, M - Modern and Mobile, A - Alert and Accountable, R - Reliable and Responsive, T - Techno-Savvy and Trained. Amit emphatically mentioned that there is a direct correlation between Smart City and Smart Policing as Smart Cities are built mostly with Smart and Intelligent Infrastructure which requires SMART Policing to act as the most important pillar or foundation to handle such infrastructure.
Therefore, he mentioned the pre-requisite of Smart Policing is the need of the hour to successfully implement twin Smart City Projects coming-up in Jammu and Srinagar soon.
Amit Sharma talked about several initiatives and contemporary examples of SMART Policing all over the country and abroad including setting-up of Smart Police Stations in Andhra Pradesh, implementing Citizens' Charter based on SMART Policing in several states, PPP Models for Technology implementation and System Integration for SMART Policing, Systemic Reforms and Functional Autonomy to Police for Optimal Output, Efficient and intelligent Capacity Building to counter future challenges and Smart City challenges, etc which received an overwhelming response from participating course officers.
At the culmination, the SKPA team thanked and complimented RD, S&LR for sharing deep insights on SMART Policing and setting the ball in motion for the entire 3-Day VIC on SMART Policing and its vital role in future success of Smart Cities and the participants also ensured that they would carry forward the useful exchange of thoughts taken place during this session.
