Rajouri admin retrieves 15 kanals of state land

Rajouri, Mar 18: Rajouri administration has retrieved 15 kanals of prime state land in its second major anti-encroachment drive today. Among the encroachers was Vice Chairman , PAB, KR Gupta who also express his resentment during the drive drive.
The drive was supervised by Dr Shahid Iqbal Choudhry, DDC along with SSP, Yougal Manhas.
73 structures were raised on the illegally encroached state/Municipality land or on the allotted land which were dismantled during the drive.
"The drive will continue till all the identified state/municipality land was not retrieved and for that notices have already been served to concerned persons. For more than 274 illegal encroachments from bus stand to tehsil office, the drive will soon be taken in hand" said a senior Revenue officer. Senior officer said that the district administration wanted to restore the old historical Mughal road passing through the town through Bela colony and for that process is underway to retrieve the encroachment land.
Today man and machinery were pressed into service in the morning hours in Gujjarmandi Chowk to Abdullah Bridge and Abdullah Bridge to Malik Market area and all the traffic was diverted from New Abdullah Bridge via new hospital.
Many people including Kuldeep Raj Gupta, vice chairman PAB, made attempts to stop the anti-encroachment drive but without any success.
"District administration has retrieved 15 kanals of encroached prime state land under Municipality limit and during this process 73 structures worth crores were removed raised on alignment of road in violation of the Prevention of Ribbon Development Act" said DDC, Dr Shahid Iqbal.
The encroachments include 24 shops (including 8 shops constructed by the government in violation of norms), illegal stairs, 59 extensions etc.
A strong contigent of 150 police , CRPF personnel under the control of SDPO, Manjkot was deployed for the security of the teams from PWD, PHE, PDD, Municipality departments engaged in the anti-encroachment drive by the administration.
During public interaction with the Chief Minister, prominent citizens of the town had raised the issue about the encroachments on the state/municipality land in the district.
"Directions were issued to the district administration for the removal of the illegal encroachments and the land which was retrieved today will be used for raising the infrastructure and widening of the roads" said DDC,
DDC also admitted creation of ruckus at the culmination of the drive by few individuals and also appreciated the cooperation extended by the local residents for this re-development initiative.
