Early Times Report

AKHNOOR, Apr 8: Expressing serious concern over scarcity of essential commodities, grim power and water supply in Akhnoor, senior Congress leader and former minister Sham Lal Sharma has said that the administration must come out of deep slumber and infuse responsiveness and an element of accountability in its machinery in order to mitigate the sufferings of people.
Addressing meeting of Block Congress Committee Chowki Choura today, Sharma alleged that the present coalition government in the state has failed on all fronts. The people of Jammu are experiencing difficulties due to the shortage of electricity, erratic water supply and scarcity of ration at the ration depots. He said the authorities are not paying any attention to these burning problems of the common man.
He further said that the farmers of Kandi area had already asked the present government to release the water in the canal in case of less rainfall in the region.
Despite their genuine demand for water required for irrigation of crops the BJP-PDP government didn't pay any attention as a result the area and people are facing drought like situation.
Sham Sharma has expressed serious concern over the acute drought like situation in the entire Kandi belt of Jammu region. He said that Chowki Choura area in Akhnoor constituency is basically Kandi area and for agricultural purposes it is dependent on rains. Due to inadequate rate of rains inhabitants weren't able to do farming and facing drought like situation. There is scarcity of feed and fodder for the animals. On account of this drought like situation, people are suffering badly.
He further said that the development works have come to standstill even the works undertaken by previous NC-Congress government haven't yet been completed or not undertaken by the present government. Launching scathing attack on the state government, Sham Lal said that the shortage of ration in Jammu region speaks about the insensitivity and callousness of the authorities.
Coming down heavily on the BJP for backstabbing the people of Jammu region in particular Sharma reminded that during 2014 assembly elections, BJP had promised to solve all problems of the people of Jammu region but after getting power, the ministers of the saffron party have turned deaf ears and blind eyes towards miseries of masses.
