KVK, NGO organizes training programme for SHGs

Reasi, Apr 13: Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Reasi of Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology-Jammu (SKUAST-J), UK based NGO, Brooke India, Sahyog India and NABARD, Reasi organised one day long farmers training programme on "Agri-entrepreneurship development in rural areas" for Self Help Groups (SHGs) members here today at KVK, Reasi campus.
Large number of farmers from different villages of Reasi district enthuastically participated in the programme. The programme was organised under the able guidance of Associate Director Extension and Incharge KVKs of SKUAST-J, Dr. R.K. Arora and co-ordinated by DDM, NABARD, Adarsh Gupta.
Dr. Banarsi Lal, Scientist &Head of KVK, Reasi inaugurated the programme with the warm welcome of the participants. In the inaugural session he said the farmers that they should divert themselves from the subsistence agriculture to commercial agriculture so that they can increase their income.
Adarsh Gupta, DDM, NABARD, Reasi said the farmers that by scientific agriculture they can increase their crops yields and raise their socio-economic status. He stressed on the commercial mushroom cultivation and urged the farmers to take the advantage of various banking schemes for the betterment of their crops.
BK Sharma, LDM, Chief Manager, Reasi highlighted various banking schemes offered by the banks for the welfare of the farmers. He suggested the farmers to take bank loans to upgrade their agriculture. He emphasized on the value addition in different fruit crops by which the farmers can double their farm income.
Dr. Mandeep Singh, Scientist of KVK, Reasi highlighted various animal diseases including the glander disease in horses and gave their remedial measures. He also spoke on balance diet of the animals and elaborated the UMMB (Urea Molasses Mineral Mixture Bricks) technology for the animals' diet.
