'Mission New Delhi' | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Apr 13: The ruling Peoples Democratic Party-Bharatiya Janta Party alliance is at the crossroads as the PDP has called a "crucial meeting" of its senior leaders to discuss "future of the collation." Sources said the ruling PDP looks ahead to discuss the developments unfolding in the state. Sources said the Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti, who is also the PDP President has called the meeting at her Fairview residence in the summer capital on the request of some of her party colleagues including those from south Kashmir. Sources said the PDP leadership from south Kashmir, which has been the hotbed of new age militancy, wants Mehbooba to reconsider her decision of continuing alliance with the right-wing party. The meeting, which is scheduled to commence at 2:00 PM is expected to have participation of around 100 leaders from the ruling party. Sources said Mehbooba also held closed-door talks with her Advisor Prof Amitabh Mattoo and some of her aides mainly from south Kashmir. Sources said after the meeting, Prof Mattoo this morning flew to the national capital for meeting with "his contacts in New Delhi." "He (Mattoo) has been sent to the national capital for some backchannel talks ," said a PDP leader from south Kashmir on the condition of anonymity. The PDP leader said the recent rise in number of civilian killings in Kashmir coupled with developments unfolding into the Kathua rape and murder have pushed the party in do or die situation. "Continuing alliance without any further thought will be suicidal for our party. It has to be hit out or get out," the PDP leader said. Sources said all the sitting ministers from the PDP have been asked to attend the meeting. "Our policy is clear and we'll inform the people about the outcome of the meeting," the PDP leader said. |
