Early Times Report

RAMBAN, Apr 13: People staged protest demonstration in Maitra area of district Ramban against the brutal gang-rape and murder of Bakrwal girl Asifa and demanded justice for the victim.
After Friday prayers the protesters blocked the Maitra-Ramban road for more than an hour to demand justice for the little girl who was found dead a week after she went missing in a Hiranagar village.
Protesters also raised slogans against Bar Association Jammu for sheltering the culprits.
Similar protests were also held at Batote and Banihal area of the district after Friday prayers.
In Batote, demonstrators took out a peaceful procession through the Batote bazar from Jamia Masjid to the Batote-Doda road chowk (Bhaderwah chowk), which was joined by people of all walks of life.
The protesters raised slogans against the state government and Forest Minister, Lal Singh and demanded capital punishment for the culprits.
At last a two minute silence was assumed and a prayer for the eternal peace of the Asifa's soul was also offered under the leadership of the local Imam.
According to sources, police have taken notice of the presence of some government employees in the protest demonstration and their names may be referred to authorities for action against them. About a dozen such employees have been identified and are being recommended to the district administration for their suspension.
