Early Times Report

Poonch, Apr 13: Most of the villages in Mendhar Balakote and Mankote tehsil are facing water shortage, thanks to inaction of the PHE department. Sources said several water supply schemes were not working in these villages for quite some time and public Health Engineering Department and Mechanical Department Poonch were in deep slumber. To address the woes of people no steps have been taken.
In some villages the pumping stations were either closed down or defunct while in other cases motors and transformers have developed snags but the department is unmoved to get them repaired, they added.
The, most affected villages in sub-division Mendhar include Balakote, Banola, Dhera Jughal, Narol, Ucchad, Kalasbladi, Ghani, Ari, Balakote, Mankote Mohra Kellar, Kalaban, Dharan, Sanjiot, Bataduriyan and other hemlets.
According to locals, they have been using contaminated water as the supply lines laid in these areas were rusted and leaking profusely.
While talking to Early Times a group of locals said that due to indifferent attitude of Department the woes of people have increased but the concerned department were in no mood to listen to public grievances despite repeated pleas.
Meanwhile, Mendhar youth club chairman advocate Nadeem Rafiq Aussain Khan appealed the district authorities to take appropriate measures to overcome the water crisis in the villages of sub-division Mendhar on priority.
