UN has taken cognisance of controversial Kathua rape & murder case
4/16/2018 10:02:53 PM
For the first time the UN has taken cognizance of Rape and murder case at Kathua when the UN had not expressed its anger and anguish against the 2016 rape and murder case of Nirbhaya which had rocked the entire nation of India. Is it because of the protest launched by the Hindu Ekta Manch against the findings of the crime Branch? It seems so because the Nirbhaya case did not witness any dissent and people from all walks of life wanted death penalty for the rapists. Since a section of Lawyers headed the protest rallies and gave a call for Jammu Bandh in support of its demand for handing over the probe of the case to the CBI the UN has been forced to take notice of the case. The UN is not for a particular community and there are many extremists who believe that the UN took cognizance of the case which related to rape and murder of a Muslim girl of eight years. Terming as "horrific" the rape and murder of an eight-year-old girl in Jammu and Kashmir's Kathua district, UN chief Antonio Guterres has expressed hope that the authorities will bring perpetrators of the brutal crime to justice. The girl from the nomadic Bakerwal Muslim community disappeared near her house on January 10 and a week later, her body was found in the same area.
She was allegedly raped by six men who had held her in captivity in a village temple for a week in January. The victim was drugged, rapped repeatedly before being bludgeoned to death. The incident has sparked outrage across India.
"I think we've seen the media reports of this horrific case, of the abuse and the murder of a young girl. We very much hope that the authorities will bring the perpetrators to justice so they can be held accountable for the murder of this young girl," Guterres' said. In fact the UN has taken note of the rape and murder of victim 8 years old girl because it experienced communal and regional divide. Even the UN has not taken cognizance of Unnao rape and murder case where one BJP MLA was involved in the crime. Though Modi ended his silence on Kathua and Unnao rape and murder cases he has shown the guts that accused in Unnao case Kuldeep Singh has been arrested. There ends the suspicion. And the UN had no reason to express its voice on the Unnao rape and murder case.
The UN was forced to take cognizance of Kathua rape and murder case because of the accused being roaming free. But the UN should have expressed its voice and sermon on the demand of lawyers who want the case by investigated by the CBI. However, the state Government, which has been supported by the central Government, has constituted a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to finish the investigation so that the accused were punished. The Supreme court too has taken cognizance of the Kathua case and has criticized the attitude of the lawyers of Kathua in obstructing the Course of investigations. The apex Court too have favoured speedy trial which may end in punishing the accused. Well the anguish and anger voiced by the UN secretary General is a matter of concern and the state Government and the BJP led NDA Government cannot sit silent on the UN Chief's anger. But he was supposed to have supported CBI inquiry so that the real accused are punished and not the one identified by the Crime Branch.
