| In Srinagar, BJP says Govt can't refer case to CBI | | |

srinagar, Apr 16: In another embarrassment for the ruling party, a senior BJP leader on Monday said that Kuthua case cannot be referred to the Central Bureau of Investigation by the government.
This is in contradiction to BJP's demand in Jammu seeking CBI probe into the rape and murder of Kuthua girl.
BJP National General Secretary Avinash Rai Khanna said that Crime Branch has submitted report into the Kathua case to the court. "As a lawyer, I also know that government cannot refer the case to CBI once the charge sheet is filed," Khanna said here. "Only the court can decide Kathua case now," he said. He was in Srinagar to attend convention of BJP youth wing in Srinagar.
He also said that Chowdhary Lal Singh and Chandra Prakash Ganga were told by the party to resign.
BJP leader's u-turn from CBI probe is seen as bid to please its office bearers and workers of Kashmir region.
In Jammu, the BJP leaders have been seeking CBI probe into the incident. "To safeguard the interest of Jammu, I will not hesitate to fight the government or meet the Prime Minister personally and reiterate the demand for a CBI probe into the Kathua rape-and-murder case which is the demand of lakhs of people," Ganga had said.
Lal Singh had said that people of Jammu want CBI enquiry into the Kathua incident. "We went to the Hindu Ekta Manch rally on directives of party leadership. Geelani said there should be no CBI probe, does that mean that separatists will dictate to Chief Minister?" he had said after resigning.
The Crime Branch of Jammu and Kashmir Police has submitted a charge sheet in the case against eight accused, including two special police officers and a sub-inspector and a head constable for destroying evidence.
The body of the girl was recovered from the Rassana forest in January, a week after she went missing from the area while grazing horses.
