SRINAGAR, May 10: In yet another case of alleged mismanagement at Government Lalded Hospital a woman died after being administered a test dose of an antibiotic at the hospital on Wednesday evening. The death of woman led to protests from the people present at the hospital.
Eye-witnesses told Early Times that Doha, a resident of Eidgah has been admitted at the Lalladed hospital five days back after she complained of high blood pressure during the pregnancy. The woman was undergoing the treatment and yesterday she was administered an antibiotic injection.
"As soon as the test dose of antibiotic injection namely Ceftriaxone was administered to Doha her condition deteriorated. The administering of the injection led to allergy in the whole body with the expectant woman crying for help. The condition of Doha led to anxiety among her family members and she called for help from the doctors," said eye-witnesses.
The eye-witnesses said that the doctors at the hospital shifted Doha to operation theatre where she gave birth to a child even though the same was premature. As soon as the operation ended the hospital authorities decided to shift her to Shri Maharaja Hari Singh (SMHS) Hospital. An ambulance was called from the SMHS hospital in this regard.
Although the ambulance was called in Doha died on way to hospital. The condition of the child is stated to be critical and the child is admitted at the intensive care of the children hospital at Sonwar. The death of the woman led to shock and also anger among her family members and other relatives. They accused the doctors of negligence and alleged that her dear one has been 'murdered'.
Following the death of the woman the attendants today came out in protest and carried out protests against the hospital authorities. The protests alleged that the injection administered to Doha was sub-standard and the same led to her death. The protesters blocked the traffic on the main road for some time and it was only after some time that the order was restored.
"The death of the woman occurred due to administering of the antibiotic injection and as such the whole matter needs to be probed. Only the enquiry would clear the controversy surrounding the case. This is a clear case of mismanagement at the hospital and stern action needs to be taken against the erring officials and the doctors," said the protesters.
The government hospitals in the Kashmir valley more so the Lalded hospitals have always been in news for wrong reasons. Allegations have come to the fore that sub-standard medicines are given to the patients admitted at the largest maternity hospital of Kashmir valley.
