BJP leaders change colours
In Kashmir they endorse ceasefire suggestion, in Jammu they oppose it
5/11/2018 12:19:33 AM
Early Times Report
Jammu, May 10: Bharatiya Janata Party leaders have been changing their colours since the day they have come into the power in Jammu and Kashmir. Just within a day they proved that they can change their stands and statements as per their convenience.
Duplicity and dubious character of so-called nationalist saffron party was exposed once again as on Wednesday it endorsed demand of its coalition partner PDP to stop anti-terror operations in Kashmir Valley. On Thursday the party took a u-turn after people of Jammu strongly opposed the ceasefire suggestion. BJP leadership conveyed a press conference to reject Mehbooba Mufti's suggestion and termed the "proposal against national interest."
It's strange that when Mehbooba was demanding ceasefire, Deputy Chief Minister maintained silence to give consent to her suggestions. Similarly five representatives from BJP were present in the all-party meeting but none of them opposed the cease-fire suggestion.
As a firefighting measure the party spokespersons who addressed the media said that terrorists at this point of time stand demoralised due to Army action and a unilateral ceasefire would ease pressure and allow them to re-group.
Referring to an all-party meeting held on Wednesday, BJP state unit's chief spokesperson Sunil Sethi said an opinion came up during the discussion for a unilateral ceasefire on the lines of one declared by the Atal Bihari Vajpayee government.
An analyst while mocking at the BJP leaders said, "They seem to be confused and lost. In Kashmir they lack guts to speak the truth but when they reach Jammu they pretend to0 be tigers."
He said, "Five BJP leaders who attended the All Party Meeting could have walked off to express their disagreement. Rather than standing with the Chief Minister they could have simply remained away."
He said that in Srinagar their Ministers leave no stone unturned to appease Kashmir centric leaders and in Jammu they pretend to be the well wishers of people of Jammu. "They should bear in mind that they cannot hoodwink the people of Jammu anymore."
It's in place to mention here that after an all-party meeting on Wednesday, Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti had said that the central government should consider a unilateral ceasefire in the state starting from Ramadan in mid-May till the completion of the Amarnath yatra in August.
When Chief Minister made this demand, newly appointed Deputy Chief Minister, Kavinder Gupta was standing with Mehbooba Mufti along with two PDP ministers Naeem Akthar and Basharat Bukhari.
"Everyone (all parties) agreed that we should appeal to the Centre to consider a ceasefire like the unilateral ceasefire in (former PM Atal Bihari) Vajpayee's time in Ramadan (later this month) till Amarnath yatra and Eid," she had said.
Mehbooba said a ceasefire would provide relief to the people and help create a better atmosphere in the state.
"The Centre should think on these lines so that the common people get some relief because they are facing many difficulties due of encounters, crackdowns and search operations," she had said.
