Amid bloodbath on Jammu border, PDP hails Pak Army, BJP silent
Run up to Modi visit
5/19/2018 12:07:35 AM
Early Times Report
Jammu, May 18: Even as brave jawans and civilians are being killed along the border by Pakistani forces in Jammu region, the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has appreciated the enemy country's Army while ally Bharatiya Janta Party is silent.
On May 17, the PDP termed the Pakistan army's statement in which it expressed willingness to hold talks with India, as a "very positive development at a right time."
In a formal statement from the party, PDP General Secretary Mansoor Hussain said such a development will strengthen the re-conciliatory measures that are in the offing between the two countries to resolve the long pending issues.
The statement has come as a shocker for many nationalist voices who believe it was not the appropriate time for the ruling party to appreciate the Pakistan Army as the neighboring country has just escalated shelling on the Indian side in the wake of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's scheduled visit to the state on May 19.
Since the day New Delhi shared news that the Prime Minister would be visiting Jammu and Kashmir, the Pakistani forces have intensified shelling which has led to bloodbath in the region.
Observers look at the PDP statement as insult to the injury of the martyrs killed in Pakistani aggression.
"There's a need to show some maturity at least in making such statements and what matters the most is the timing. PDP has appreciated Pakistani army at the time of bloodbath by the enemy forces, this is intolerable," said a professor at Jammu University.
Interestingly the Bharatiya Janta Party is silent on the issue. Sources said soon after the PDP issued the provocative statement that pleases Pakistani Army, some of the lower rung workers of the BJP had asked the leadership to respond with a befitting reply in the interest of the nationalist sentiment but that there has been no response.
Despite repeated attempts the BJP leaders couldn't be contacted for comments.
