Already burdened officer burdened with yet another charge, Shamim Wani is new MD J&K TDC

Early Times Report
Srinagar, June 10: There seems to be no end to additional syndrome culture in the state with the people at helm assigning multiple responsibilities to an officer without ascertaining the fact that whether the officer is capable of handling more pressure or not.
In a latest example, the Jammu & Kashmir government has put more burdens on an officer who is already over burdened. The officer is already holding two charges and according to the latest order he has been giving the responsibility of a third department.
Shamim Ahmad Wani, presently discharging duties as General Manager, Jammu & Kashmir Tourism Development Corporation and holding the additional charge of Managing Director, Jammu & Kashmir Cable Car Corporation has been appointed as the new Managing Director, Jammu & Kashmir Tourism Development Corporation.
"In the interest of administration, Shamim Ahmad Wani, General Manager, J & K Tourism Development Corporation, holding the additional charge of the post of Managing Director, J & K Cable Car Corporation shall also hold the charge of the post of Managing Director, J & K Tourism Development Corporation in addition to his own duties till further orders," reads the Government Order number 982-GAD of 2018 dated 9-6-2018.
With three charges being assigned to Shamim it seems that there is a dearth of officers in the state. The shortage of officers is more glaring in the Department of Tourism and Tourism Development Corporation since the charges assigned to Shamim are directly or indirectly are related to the department and the corporation.
The latest development may not go well with the senior officers of the department since they could easily deliver the goods. Any of these officers could be appointed on the additional charges assigned to Shamim. At the same time one fails to understand whether Shamim is the General Manager or the Managing Director effectively.
"How can you expect an officer to look after three important positions in the state? All these positions are related to the inflow of tourists to Kashmir, Jammu and other places of the state. Ideally the three positions should have been handed over to three different persons so that justice is done to the employees of the department and the functioning of the corporations is not affected," said a group of employees while sharing views with Early Times.
It would be in place to mention here that the incumbent Director Tourism Kashmir, Mahmood Ahmad Shah is in the real sense Joint Director Tourism. Shah is yet to be confirmed as Director Tourism but still then he holds the all important position of Director Tourism Kashmir.
Sources in the Department of Tourism say that Shah is one of the blue-eyed boys of the present dispensation and it is due to this reason that he is enjoying benefits like anything. They said that despite having options available the state government is yet to act and order for the replacement of Shah as Director Tourism Kashmir.
