Not all is well within PDP; sacked Minister spills beans

Early Times Report

Jammu, June 10: The anger within the ranks of the ruling People's Democratic Party seems to have been brewing with a wedge between the leadership widening with each passing day.
Party leaders have started expressing their disgruntlement in open over the way in which the ministers from the party are picked and chosen by the high command. Earlier, as there was a major row witnessed between the party leaders over the insignificant portfolios being accorded to various ministers, the present skirmish has erupted over dropping of some ministers from the cabinet during the recent cabinet revamp.
Former Rural Development and Law Minister Abdul Haq Khan who was recently dropped from the cabinet, on Sunday subtly hinted about his annoyance over the way he was dropped. Though Khan guarded in his words didn't utter a single sentence against the party leadership, however, his disgruntlement could be gauged by the way in which he stated that he should have at least been taken into confidence before sacking him from the cabinet.
Khan dropped a major bombshell, stating that he got offers of joining from other political parties soon after he was sacked as the minister from the cabinet. "After sacking, people from the opposition and the ruling combine came to me as one of my relations had passed away the same day. When any leader in any party is relinquished of any important responsibility it is all but natural that people from both the opposition and the ruling combine come with offers. I will continue to work for district Kupwara and home constituency," Khan was quoted to have said in the reports on Sunday.
Sources privy to the development told Early Times that the recent cabinet revamp came as a shock for several workers and the party leaders. "It was like the High command of the party had kept the cards close to its chest and is leaving the entire spectrum of the cabinet ministers guessing over who shall be the next man to be dropped," a party functionary divulged.
Earlier, last year in February the PDP went for the major cabinet revamp, inducting Altaf Bukhari and dropping Ashraf Mir and Javaid Mustafa Mir. There was also a change in the portfolios of the ministers at that time. Two senior ministers Syed Basharat Bukhari and Imran Raza Ansari had refused to re-join their offices after the cabinet revamp- stating that they have been accorded insignificant portfolios.
Uncle of Imran Ansari and PDP MLA from Srinagar's Zadibal, Abid Ansari had voiced opposition to the insignificant portfolio being accorded to his nephew Imran. Abid had even trained guns against the senior PDP leader and a minister, accusing him of ruining the party at the grass-roots.
