Early Times Report

Poonch, June 18: Several irrigation canals are said to be dying a slow but sure death in Mandhar sub divison while the Irrigation and Flood Control Department seems to be unmoved over the issue as a result of which paddy crops were badly affected sources said here today. They said the I&FC department have failed to provide water for irrigation through canals locally known as kuls as result of which paddly fields spread over 800 kanals of land from Pahram Nar to Gagarmang in Kasiote village of Harmutta have not been used to grow the crop for the last one year due to shortage of water. Sources said the same fate has been met with the paddy fields In Mankote and Mendhar also where the department withdraw the funds for construction of canals but on papers only while no work on the ground was visible they added. A local Tariq Khan said people have brought a number of time the problem into the notice of concerned authorities but their pleas were not heeded hence no work of construction of kuls took place rather the money released for it may have been misappropriated alleged other locals. They in a joint appeal urged the District Development Commissioner Poonch to take the strong note of the matter and direct the concerned department to work immediately on construction of kuls so that paddy fields get water for irrigation.
