Delay in disposal of rape cases multiplying agony of victims
6/18/2018 11:36:54 PM
Early Times Report
Jammu, June 18: The prolonged pendency in rape cases in the various courts in the State has evoked huge resentment among the people and much needed demand of setting up of special Fast Track Court for early disposal of such cases is gaining momentum but attribute it to the lackadaisical attitude of the Government , thousands of rape cases have been gathering dust in various courts.
Amitabh Manhas, an engineer said that first of all it has been observed that at many occasions the cases pertaining to rape are not reported either by the victims or by their families due to social stigma and the cases which are reported and later go for trials take too much of time and ultimately the pendency in the disposal of rape cases in the courts multiplies the agony of the victims. "One can't imagine the psychological trauma of a rape victim and how it hampers her struggle to return to normal life, he said.
Surjeet Kumar, an entrepreneur said that it is very tragic that even after so many years, the government could not understand the sensitivity of rape cases and such cases linger on for years in the courts. "I have strong reservations that only those cases which hog limelight in media are taken up for fast track trial which is total injustice to the other rape victims who have been waiting for justice since years," he lamented.
Ranjna Charak, a social activist said that tragedy of rape literally makes the life of innocent victim a hell generally pushing her into deep depression. Strict laws coupled with fast track courts have become imperative to deal with such cases so that the accused may get stringent punishment and victim can get justice within short time. "The coordination between NGOs, Women Commission can play vital role to project women issues on appropriate platforms," she asserted.
