Tariq Karra shatters PDP-Congress alliance dreams
7/2/2018 10:58:25 PM
Early Times Report

SRINAGAR, July 2: Even as former Chief Minister and Peoples Democratic Party President Mehbooba Mufti had been lobbying with Congress in the national capital hoping to cobble up alliance with the national party, her own erstwhile aide proved deadly for her dreams.
Sources said the Mehbooba in league with some senior Congress leaders was working on the plan to come up with "Grand Alliance" against the Bharatiya Janta Party in the state of Jammu and Kashmir, and that both the parties were coming to consensus in formation of new government in the state. However sources said senior Congress leader Tariq Hameed Karra who left the PDP during the unrest of 2016 to "protest rights abuse" told his leadership that he would quit the party if alliance was made with such "traitors."
Sources said Karra openly conveyed to the Congress leadership in New Delhi not to enter into alliance with "Chameleons who have lost public support because of their selfish policies."
Insiders said Karra told Congress that PDP was suffering from such a "political disease that it would even claim the credibility the national party."
The former PDP leader also took social media to make his position clear. "Many people didn't understand the spirit behind my today's tweet regarding gossips. My idea was to dispel speculations, rumours and gossips being spread by PDP regarding formation of Government by PDP with the help of Congress Party. The tweet actually meant only politically stupids and idiots should believe in such gossips," Karra said in a Facebook post. In the same post he added that he would not mind opposing any such move. "And in the event of anything happening like that, I will be the first person to oppose it as I will not allow Congress Party to board a sinking boat who not only betrayed the people, they have blood stains of hundreds and thousands of innocent people, all over them." Karra added that: "In my opinion PDP is a traitor and atleast I am not, in any case, ready to shake hands with them. And if Congress Party or anyone in it tries to stitch alliance with them. I WILL NOT HESITATE TO REVOLT AGAINST YET ANOTHER UNHOLY ALLIANCE. Today PDP has become unholy and anyone shaking hands would turn UNHOLY." Sources said Mehbooba along with her close aides had been camping in Delhi with a hope to form alliance with the Congress. Sources said Mehbooba was in touch with the Congress leadership and had suggested alliance on the lines of "Maha Gath Bandhan". One of her close aides, who is well connected in the corridors of power in the national capital, had been at the forefront of the plan.
