Early Times Report
Jammu, July 4: Rampant corruption at the highest level and mess in the Directorate of Distance Education (DDE), Jammu University has spoiled the entire work culture and accountability in the system.
According to sources, the DDE Director Dr. Darshana Sharma and Assistant Registrar (AR) Bashi Ram were managing the entire show as per their whims and fancies and are indulging in corrupt practices.
"The culture of absenteeism is on peak in DDE as the staff members are not taking their duties. Most of them remain absent for more than 20 days a month whereas they are actually entitled for 15 days leave for entire year," sources added.
They said Ram approves the full attendance of absent staff members for salary without any deduction or explanation in lieu of graft and the part of which was paid to DDE Director as well. "The absenteeism of the staff can be easily detected with the help of CCTV cameras installed all across the DDE premises. But none from JU, not even Vice Chancellor, seems bothered to take care of this mess and corruption," they added.
Sources also said that Darshana Sharma was under compul
Corruption also in issuing Print Orders
The DDE Assistant Registrar, Bashi Ram is corrupt to an extent that he openly resorting to corruption as he issues printing order to only those Printing Press which pay him suitable amount of graft. This can be easily gauged from the official record of the DDE as selective bunch of Printers have got maximum number of Print orders, sources said.
ion to align with corrupt Assistant Registrar as she also carries the taint of indulging in corrupt act and was rescued by Vice Chancellor as the latter was relative of the former. "She was found involved in abetting unfair means during a university examination and was removed from the post of Coordinator M.Ed. But as soon as Prof Ramji Dass Sharma took over the reins of Jammu University she was promoted instead of being punished," a retired DDE professor revealed.
Also, Dr Darshana Sharma is weak in drafting letters and completely dependent on Bashi Ram for drafting official communication, so she has no option other than toeing the line of his subordinate, the retired professor added.
Sources said Bashi Ram is corrupt to a such an extent that he issues printing order to only those printing presses which pay him suitable amount of graft. This can be easily gauged from the official record of the DDE as selective bunch of printers have got maximum number of print orders, sources said.
When contacted, Bashi Ram ignored the call and remained mum on allegations; whereas, the DDE Director failed to respond to repeated calls.
