| DB issues directives in PIL against illegal brick-kilns | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, July 6: In a Public Interest Litigation highlighting degradation of environment due to the activities of brick kilns, Division Bench of State High Court comprising Justice Tashi Rabstan and Justice Sanjay Kumar Gupta after hearing Adv Munish Sharma for PIL observed that Vide order dated 11.10.2017 District Officer, Pollution Control Board of each District in Jammu and Srinagar Province were directed to visit each and every Brick Kiln falling within their jurisdiction and verify whether the consent of the Pollution Control Board has been taken in the manner prescribed. If on inspection, it is found that one or more Brick Kilns are running without the consent of the Pollution Control Board, he shall immediately inform the Deputy Commissioner/District Magistrate Ex-officio Chairman and the District Environment Impact Assessment Authority shall take action in accordance with law.
DB took serious note for not filing compliance report and observed that even today no one has appeared on behalf of State respondents. Reluctantly four weeks' further time is granted to do the needful in terms of order dated 11.10.2017 whereby earlier Division Bench directed District Officer, Pollution Control Board of each District in Jammu and Srinagar Province are directed to visit each and every Brick Kiln falling within their jurisdiction and verify whether the consent of the Pollution Control Board has been taken in the manner-prescribed.
DB also directed Registry to supply copy of this order and order dated 1 1.10.2017 to all the Deputy Commissioners of Jammu Province and Kashmir Province through Divisional Commissioner, Jammu and Divisional Commissioner, Kashmir who are further directed to ensure compliance from the Deputy Commissioners concerned. |
