J&K to get first Lead Awareness, Toxicity Referral Centre

JAMMU, July 26: To fulfil this dream project to save the public from hazardous effects of lead toxicity and poisoning in the State, the Jammu and Kashmir to get first Lead Awareness and Toxicity Referral Centre, disclosed during a press meet.
Indian Academy of Biomedical Sciences (IABS) in collaboration with Indian Society for Lead Awareness and Research (InSLAR) in India under the expert guidance of Prof. Thuppil Venkatesh Bengaluru, the LEAD MAN of the Country and Prof. Hari S Sharma, the Founder President IABS Holland, invited Dr. Abbas Ali Mahdi, Director National Referral Centre for lead projects in India and President Indian Society for Lead Awareness and Research.
Addressing media persons, Dr. Abbas Ali Mahdi, a pioneer in the field of research in Lead Toxicity and Vice-Chancellor ERA University Lucknow, revealed that Lead in an environmental toxicant with the highest burden in developing countries like India. He disclosed that lead as such has no positive effect on human health and it is hundred percent a toxic element. Director National Referral centre for Lead projects in India lauded the role of Dr. A S Bhatia Head Department of Biochemistry Government Medical College Jammu who is working hard for last more than one Year to bring the J&K State on national level in getting Lead Referral Centre sanctioned from Indian. He said a step has been taken by Dr. Bhatia and we assure all types of technical help in starting Lead awareness programmes in J&K with active co-operation and involvement of Indian Academy of Biomedical Sciences Jammu Division under the supervision of Dr. A.S.Bhatia, Vice-President IABS. Dr. Harleen Kaur, Associate Professor Department of Microbiology and Co-ordinator of Lead Awareness Programmes stressed the need of prompt Medical Attention related to Lead exposure.
