Early Times Report
SRINAGAR, July 26: The Jammu & Kashmir Bank may lose out to a private bank when it comes to opening of salary accounts of the employees working in the different government departments in the state.
A government department has already started the process and one can expect that the other government departments would follow suit. This is despite the fact that Jammu & Kashmir Bank is the government banker and the government employees are operating the accounts in the various branches of the bank.
Irony is that a Commissioner Secretary level officer has written to the Director of a government department asking to facilitate the operation of the private bank in his particular department. A full-fledged communication has been sent in this regard and the Director concerned is not expected to turn down the favour.
Sources in the office of Commissioner Secretary, Agriculture Production Department told Early Times that Commissioner Secretary of the department wrote a letter to Director Agriculture, Altaf Aijaz Andrabi last week asking him to facilitate opening of accounts by employees of the Agriculture department in Housing Development Finance Corporation (HDFC) Bank Limited.
"Shri Sachin Mahajan, Vice President Cluster Head (J&K), HDFC Bank approached this office for providing hassle free services in Agriculture Production Department regarding maintenance of saving/current accounts of HDFC Banks for various centrally sponsored schemes," written in the letter to Director Agriculture Kashmir. The letter has been shot on July 18, 2018.
The Commissioner Secretary, Agriculture Production Department in his letter further writes, "It is reported that the manpower of HDFC Bank will assist the department for processing and documentation of services whichever they are ready to provide. You are requested to please accommodate the Bank in your Department for opening of account in one of the nearest HDFC Banks for frequent operations."
Sources said that the daughter of Commissioner Secretary, Agriculture Production Department is working in the HDFC Bank. They said that in order to push for the promotion of his daughter the bureaucrat is dictating the terms to Director Agriculture Kashmir and 'coercing' him to 'force' the employees to open bank accounts in HDFC Bank.
"Truth of the matter is that the Commissioner Secretary wants to give fillip to the career of his daughter and in this regard he is ready to walk an extra mile. He wants that his daughter gets promoted at the Bank since there is lot of competition there. As such the employees of Department of Agriculture may come up as lame ducks," said sources.
