Early Times Report
Jammu, Sept 11: The Central University of Jammu (CUJ), which came into existence after hard struggle of Jammu people, has failed to meet the people's expectations, as its Vice-Chancellor has been using the institution to appease his political masters.
Recently, the VC, Prof Ashok Aima, arranged a programme on campus wherein he informed the gathering of teachers, officials and students about the approval for establishment of Space Technology Research Centre in the campus. He was flanked by the senior most faculty member Prof Devanand and one Bharat, who is a BJP activist and an aide of senior BJP leader.
Bharat is neither a government official nor a university official, but was occupying the chair next to Prof. Ashok Aima while the latter was addressing the university stakeholders on the campus.
"Prof. Aima overlooked the decorum of the institution and gave undue protocol to Bharat just because he is an aide of the senior BJP leader. With this, Prof Aima showed his subservience to his political masters by giving his adjacent seat to a lowly rated political activist," a senior official of CUJ said.
He added that the VC repeatedly expressed gratitude to the senior BJP leader in front of Bharat so that the latter could convey the subservience of the former to his boss.
"Prof Aima not only compromised with the decorum of institution but also lowered the dignity of Prof Devanand, who is also the senior most faculty member, by accommodating Bharat alongside him during the address," the official added.
Pertinently, the Centre approved the establishment of Space Research Centre at CUJ.
Addressing the students and faculty members at Main Campus, Bagla on Monday, the VC informed the gathering that the CUJ has been approved for prestigious Space Technology Research Centre first ever in North. "This centre is third of its kind in India. The CUJ was pursuing the project for last three years. It could not be possible without the blessing of (senior BJP leader), the VC said while addressed the students," sources revealed.
The VC has not only turned the campus as party office of a political party but also wilfully committed a blunder by promoting one of the faculty members Dr Jaya Bhasin as Professor from Associate Professor as her appointment was surrounded by controversy and inquiry was still going on in the matter.
"How can Prof Aima justify the promotion of Dr. Jaya Bhasin when her appointment as Associate Professor was still under question," a senior official asked.
