Forest deptt seizes 30 kg banned Nag Chhatri

RAMBAN, Sept 15: As much as 30 Kg Nagchhatri(Trillium govanianum)-a banned Minor Forest Produce(MFP), was seized by a Forest Department team led by Range Officer,SS Chib and assisted by Forester, Harveer Singh and Watchman,Riaz Ahmed under the supervision of DFO,Batote Safeer Hussain Shah today morning.
Contained in 3 bags sealed and stamped by the Post Office officials of Kishtwar,the consignment was seized by Riaz from a Jammu bound bus,Kishtwar Mail(JK02BE-9495) during a routine naka (checking)at Forest Check Post,Batote.
It was reportedly being sent through Indian Postal Courier Service to Dr.Mukesh Parmar at 123/6 Shri Ram Palace Colony,Delhi Road,Meerut and RS International,485/2,Katra Ishwar,Khari Baoli,Delhi by a person identified as Aftab,H.No.-28,W.No10, Kishtwar.
The consignment packed in three sacs(two weighing15 Kg and another 3Kg including weight of sacs)was a part of routine postal material and placed in the luggage chamber on the rear of bus.
After bringing the bus to the Batote Post Office for the verification of postal seal etc.,the bus alongwith the passengers was allowed to proceed ahead.
According to the sources, nobody was arrested but a criminal case was registered against the Post Office ,Kishtwar under the J&K Forest Act as the connivance of Post Office , Kishtwar is suspected.
The herb is used for making aphrodiasics and costs about Rs.2000 per Kg.Its open sale is prohibited and transportation without permission is banned.
