Early Times Report
Jammu, Sept 21: The Indian nation was in a state of mourning. It was accusing the BJP-led NDA Government of adopting a weak-kneed policy towards Pakistan, which had been bleeding India with a thousand-cut on a daily basis. The reason: barbarous Pakistan Rangers on Tuesday shot and hacked to death an injured BSF head constable in J&K's Ramgarh sector. The body of Narinder Kumar of D Coy 176 Bn was found near the international border late Tuesday evening. There were three bullet wounds in his chest, shoulder and right leg. The barbarous Pakistani rangers had also slit the throat of Narendra Kumar. His body had wounds from bullets fired at a close range. One of the bullets hit the chest and passed through the back. Another Pakistani bullet hit his left shoulder and reached the face just below the left eye. And, the third bullet hit the right leg.
The Pakistani rangers killed Narendra Kumar and mutilated his body a day after Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh inaugurated two smart fence pilot projects. These projects are part of the Comprehensive Integrated Border Management System (CIBMS) along the international border in Jammu to check infiltration from Pakistan.
The barbarous manner in which the Pakistani Rangers killed Narendra Kumar, slit his throat and mutilated his body had shocked the whole nation. The nation was demanding a stringent action against Pakistan and asking the Modi Government to avenge his martyrdom. The nation was asking the BJP what happened to its oft-repeated statement "Agar Wo Ek Sar Katein Ge, Hum 10 Sar Katein Ge?"
Just when the nation was in a state of mourning, The Government of India got a letter from Pakistan PM Imran Khan. Imran Khan had urged PM Narendra Modi to start peace process so that Jammu & Kashmir, Siachen, Sir Creek and other bilateral issues could be resolved. The need of the time was to reject out of hand the Imran Khan's suggestion and initiate action against Pakistan so that the death of Narendra Kumar could be avenged. But it was not to be. Instead of initiating action or rejecting Imran Khan’s provocative suggestion, the BJP-led NDA Government knelt. New Delhi declared that Minister of External Affairs Sushma Swaraj will meet her Pakistani counterpart Shah Mehmood Qureshi in New York next week.
"I can confirm that on the request of Pakistani side, a meeting between External Affairs Minister and Pak Foreign Minister will take place on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly at a mutually convenient date and time," said MEA spokesperson Raveesh Kumar.
If the murder of Narendra Kumar and mutilation of his body had shocked the nation, the decision of the BJP-led NDA Government to allow MEA Sushma Swaraj to hold a meeting with Pak Forein Minister Qureshi has angered the nation and further alienated it from the BJP.
The pressure from below finally worked and PM Narendra Modi Government today evening announced that the proposed meeting between Foreign Ministers of India and Pakistan has been cancelled. Announcing the decision taken under public pressure, MEA spokesperson Raveesh Kumar blamed Pakistan PM Imran Khan for the cancellation of the meeting in New York. It's obvious that it was the kidnapping and murder of three cops in South Kashmir on Friday that changed the whole scenario forcing the Narendra Modi Government to take a complete U-turn. This is called people's pressure. Had New Delhi ignored the national mood and went ahead, the BJP would have become an object of contempt and ridicule and it would have suffered huge electoral losses.
