16 women among 56 in fray for 13 Kishtwar wards

Kishtwar, Sept 27: In major boost to the democratic efforts in the State of Jammu and Kashmir, 16 females among 56 candidates file nomination papers for 13 Wards of Municipal Committee Kishtwar which is schedule to go to poll on 10-10-2018 in 2nd phase of election to Municipal Committees, Municipal Counsel and Municipal Corporations.
As per the details available with "Early Times", a total of 56 Nominations have been received in respect of 7 4-Kishtwar Municipal Committee and among these 56 candidates, 40 are male and 16 Female.
Among the 56 nomination papers received by the returning officers, 18 candidates belong to national parties, one from state and maximum 37 candidates as Independent.
Ward No. 10 of Kishtwar Municipality has received only two nominations while Ward No. 2 & 13 got 6 nomination papers.
Among the 56 candidates, Former ADDC Kishtwar Raiz Ahmed Zarger is a renowned face while majority of the candidates are the youths.
The scrutiny of the nomination papers will be held tomorrow and the candidates can withdraw their nomination up to 1-10-2018.
Speaking to "Early Times" several candidates desired to work for the development of the respective wards.
Speaking to "Early Times" Nazia Kousar Gagroo who is contesting as an Independent Candidate from Ward No. 7 said that her ward is under develop in terms of lain and drains, no drainage and sewage facility available in the ward, Widow pension, conversion of BPL Ration cards in APL are some of the issues which according to her need to be addressed.
She also hail the support of her family and her husband added that being a female doesn't mean to sit inside the four walls of a house added that she decided to contest election so that she can set bench marks for other women who need to come out and support her and give her the chance not only to represent the aspirations of the voters of ward No. 7, but also for the deprived women class.
Another female candidate Nazia Kousar Sheikh had also decided to contest election from Ward No. 1 and expressed her views and plans with regard to the development of her Ward.
Speaking to "Early Times", Nazie Sheikh said that she did her graduation last year and was sitting at home when her neighbors approached her-pressing her contest election from the ward.
She said that being as educated girl, the people want her to represent them in Kishtwar Municipality.
" I was sitting at home and was looking for a job-suddenly the people approach me and want me to represent them-After taking careful thought-I accepted the offer" Said Nazia Sheikh. She said her father and mother along with neighborhood women's stood firmly behind her added that she is hopeful that she will manage to win the election.
Meanwhile Congress party candidate form Kishtwar and Thathri Municipal Committee also filed their nomination papers today. They were accompanied by JKPCC Vice President and MLA Inderwal Ghulam Mohammad Saroori.
