Early Times Report
kathua, Sept 27: Bharatiya Janta Party strengthens its voice to preserve the dignity of Indian National flag globally but unfortunately its Member of Legislature Assembly forgets the dignity of flag.
Ironically, being an educated and responsible representative of the town, MLA Kathua Rajiv Jasrotia and BJP contestants forgot dignity of National flag in lust of municipal elections.
BJP supporters unfurled defaced national flags in a rally when a BJP candidate was going to file nomination. The rally was personally led by MLA Kathua throughout the route and continually disrespecting national flag.
Pertinently, according to Prevention of Insults to National Flag Honor Act 1971, Section 2 and explanation, 5 Whoever in any public place or in any other place within public view burns, mutilates, defaces, defiles, disfigures, destroys, tramples upon or otherwise shows disrespect to or brings into contempt (whether by words, either spoken or written, or by acts) the Indian National Flags thereof, shall be punished with imprisonment for a term which may extend to three years, or with fine, or with both.
Ravinder Singh Jasrotia, Independent candidate of Ward no 19, pointed out the irresponsible attitude of MLA Kathua and expressed concern over the incident. He sought strict judicial inquiry against the MLA who openly insulted national flags and displayed the flag in entire two Km long distance.
"Unfortunately, illiterate graduate MLA's lust for Municipal election has crossed all limits that he acted venetian blind in entire rally and did not notice of disrespecting National Flags", Ravinder said by asking how will BJP work for people who himself forgot all principles and respect for national symbol.
Ravinder Singh Jasrotia said, "MLA does not know that he have to give respect to flag. If he does not respect the national flag, how he respects Indian citizens."
It's an offence and have special provision of punishment in Indian Constitution, the culprits should be punished under law," he added.
