Katra, Sept 27: On one hand Swacchta Pakhwara has been observed across the country but the Public Health department's Pouni division of district Reasi has virtually failed the hygienic campaign launched by Prime Minister as the students of Government High School Kheralad have been forced to bring water from their homes for drinking purposes as well as to avail toilet facilities in the school.
According to the locals, the Government High School Kheralad has a total enrolment of over 160 students. The school has not been provided any water supply by the PHE department for the last many years, students said.
They further said that for providing toilet facilities to the students, though school administration has constructed the toilets but there was no water supply in these toilets.
In absence of any water supply in the toilets, the condition of the toilets has become worse, with stink emanating all around. "We don't have water to drink and the question of providing water supply to toilets, becomes the last priority", a teacher said, adding that even they were forced to bring water from their homes for drinking or to get water from outside the school.
The female students are worst sufferers. "We have to bring water from our homes for drinking purposes and even for using toilets", a student said. There is every possibility that unhygienic toilets cause urinary track-infections, bacterial infections especially to female students, a female doctor said. Incharge Head Master of the School said that time and again he had approached the PHE authorities to provide water supply but all in vain. Even I had given them written representations but for no avail, he said.
JE Pouni Raman Gandotra said that due to ongoing strike of the employees, the water supply was affected. He assured that he would visit the school and if the water supply would not be restored through pipelines, water would be provided through tanker supply.. |
