Violence hits south Kashmir with Pak backing
9/28/2018 10:53:44 PM
Since the killing of Hizbul Mujahideen commander, Burhan Wani, who finds mention in the stamp issued by Pakistan the valley of Kashmir has witnessed massive incidents of militancy related violence in which 263 people were killed, which included civilians, militants and security personnel. The four districts of south Kashmir witnessed the maximum number of incidents of militancy related violence because Burhan Wani was killed in an encounter with the security forces in Kokernag in south Kashmir. The four districts of south Kashmir have witnessed a higher level of militancy-related violence in the first eight months of this year with 139 deaths. According to data, at least 263 persons-civilians, militants and forces' personnel-were killed in militancy-related incidents across the Valley in first eight months this year.
Of 263 causalities, south Kashmir's four districts-Anantnag, Pulwama, Shopian and Kulgam-have borne the maximum brunt of violence with highest 139 deaths witnessed in the region alone. This is followed by three districts of north Kashmir-Baramulla, Bandipora and Kupwara-with nearly 88 casualties till August this year, as per the figures. The three central Kashmir districts Srinagar, Budgam and Ganderbal have recorded 26 deaths due to militancy-related violence. At least 10 persons including six army men, a civilian and three militants were also killed in Jammu region during last eight months. According to figures, of 263 deaths in past eight months, 130 were militants killed in encounters with forces in the Valley and along the Line of Control (LoC).
This is the case of Pakistan's proxy war which it had been fighting in Jammu and Kashmir since 1989. And during these 28 years several thousand security personnel, militants and civilians were killed and as far as Government infrastructure is concerned it witnessed massive damage. And for the first time in past three years Pakistan has been supporting talks for the settlement of the key issues, including the issue of Kashmir, which have fomented animosity between the two neighbouring countries. But the same Pakistan has ignored India's demand for keeping the doors of negotiations and talks open provided Pakistan stopped export of terror to India and to Jammu and Kashmir. And worst of it Pakistan Army has been trying to assist militants in crossing into Kashmir and besides it organizing recruitment drive for local youth to join militant outfits so that the level of violence is hiked.
