Vacation-savvy Abdullahs have no time to attend funeral of NC workers!
10/6/2018 10:34:20 PM
Early Times Report
srinagar, Oct 6: Even as Omar Abdullah recently returned from month-long vacations abroad, the National Conference President and his father Dr Farooq Abdullah couldn't find time to attend funeral of two of their party workers who were killed by terrorists on Friday in congested old city here.
Resentment is brewing among the party workers of National Conference over the allegedly cold response of its leadership on the killing of two of the workers in Karfalli Mohalla locality of Srinagar here on October 5.
Even as the area falls barely three miles away from the Gupkar residence of the Abdullahs, none of them bothered to attend the funeral prayers.
The party workers have taken a seriousness note of the "callousness of the Abdullahs." "These Abdullahs are behaving like Rajas and Maharajas who have no time for their soldiers," a delegation of NC workers told Early Times.
Sources said the party has come under heavy criticism for the failure of its leadership to attend the funeral.
Interestingly Karfalli Mohalha locality where the incident took place falls in Assembly constituency led by NC lawmaker Shamima Firdous whereas the Parliament constituency of Srinagar is also with the same party with Dr Farooq Abdullah as the MP. Still the NC leaders didn't bother to visit the bereaved families.
Interestingly, when the Karfalli Mohalla locality was mourning the killings, Omar Abdullah and other senior leaders visited Raj Bhawan along with the delegation from Ladakh.
This further infuriated the bereaved NC workers. "When this party leader had time to visit Raj Bhawan for deliberations on Ladakh why not Karfalli Mohalla," said some of the mourners.
What has added to the controversy is that some senior leaders have decided to write a letter to the Abdullahs to make them explain their position. "If these leaders can go on vacations to attend weddings in the United States, what prevents them from attending funerals or is it that party workers are lesser humans," sources quoted excerpts from a letter being sent to the NC patron.
Meanwhile a NC leader downplayed the issue. "They (Abdullahs) were busy with their personal engagements and will visit the bereaved in the coming days. There's no need to make mountain out of molehill," the NC leader said.
Pertinently terrorists killed two NC workers whereas their third counterpart was wounded in the incident.
