Employees of DHS Kashmir continue strike while demanding release of pending salary
10/6/2018 10:34:36 PM
Early Times Report

SRINAGAR, Oct 6: Directorate of Health Services (DHS) Kashmir presented a deserted look today as the work came to a standstill for the second consecutive day since the employees of the health department continued their strike in support of their demands.
Reports said that 150 employees of DHS Kashmir suspended their work today as well and carried out a pen down strike in support of their demand. The employees are demanding release of their salary that is pending for the past four months.
On Friday the first day of the strike the employees assembled in the lawns of their office located at the Old Secretariat here. The employees demanded that the salaries that have been withheld for four months should be released at the earliest.
The protesting employees said that they are facing huge problems since they are not being paid salary for the last four months. They said that since June this year their salary has been withheld for no fault of theirs adding that matters have been made worse since there is nobody to listen to their grievances.
"The problem is that there is no Director at our office these days since the charge has been given to Principal Secretary, Health & Medical Education. He does not come to the office and as such there is nobody to whom we shall contact with regards to our demand that is genuine in every respect," said a group of employees while sharing views with Early Times.
The employees said that despite working round the year and that too for extra hours there is nobody to listen to their genuine grievances. They said that they are not demanding moon or stars but the salary that has been kept withheld for four months now.
The striking employees including the women employees sat on dharna on the first day of strike in the lawns of Old Secretariat complex and raised slogans in support of their demand. They threatened to intensify the agitation in case their salary is not released at the earliest.
"It is very difficult to carry on with the chores of life without having salary in our hands. We have suffered over the last four months and there is no end to our miseries. Hopefully, the State Administrative Council headed by Governor Satya Pal Malik would look into our matter and take the necessary steps," said the employees.
